All Sunshine mattress covers are not machine washable. They can be spot treated, or professionally dry cleaned. It is recommended to use a mattress protector. Please visit the product care and warranty pages for detailed information. 

Your mattress will require a firm and well-ventilated flat surface for adequate support and airflow. In some cases, platform beds are designed with a similar slat system which should include solid, evenly spaced slats, a center support beam and leg. It is not recommended to use a solid surface without slats or the floor. Please feel free to send us a photo of your bed and we can confirm its compatibility.

Some mattress sellers use glue to hold together the layers inside, or use covers that are sewn shut – this does not prevent shifting or bunching and will limit the ability to flip and rotate. All Sunshine mattresses include a high-quality zippered cover specifically designed to hold the number of layers inside. Each layer is wrapped in a cotton cloth to provide easier handling and added extra durability and friction. Toppers can be added to any mattress. They provide a gentle support, additional comfort, body temperature and moisture control, and they can increase the lifespan of your mattress. They are not physically attached to any Sunshine mattress so that they can be flipped and rotated or can be taken away for travel. 

Sunshine mattresses and accessories are designed with breathable materials that will naturally sleep cool. Natural latex is manufactured with an open cell structure which allows air to circulate through, never retaining heat or moisture. In addition, wool is quilted to the inside of the mattress encasement providing an added layer of temperature regulation and moisture control. These materials combined with organic cotton will ensure a cool, and comfortable sleep. There are many factors that contribute to bedtime temperatures. Sunshine mattresses are designed to suite your specific needs and preferences on your side of the mattress. There are 3 standard configurations for each adult mattress – Soft, Medium and Firm.

Commercially processed wool is commonly washed and dyed using harmful chemicals, leaving behind a dry, course fiber with very little integrity. Sunshine products are made with organic materials that have not been treated in any way. The fiber is long and soft, and always encased between two or more layers of thick organic cotton. Wool is naturally thermal regulating, keeping you warm if your cold and cool if you’re warm – truly a miracle fiber for bedding. The natural performance depends on quality, and can also be effected by other bedding such as sheets and duvet covers.

Latex products are made by either dipping (gloves) or hardening (mattresses), but most commonly the allergy is a contact allergy associated with dipped products. The protein in latex is the cause for most allergic reactions and is washed away both during and after production. Although we have no reports of allergic reactions, we recommend trying a pillow for a month or two before committing to a larger purchase. Latex mattresses are proven to be better for people with chemical sensitivities, asthma, or dust mite allergies.

The shredded latex pillow is the most versatile as it can be shaped to fit the shape of your head and neck. Is has an over all soft-medium feel and will maintain a cool, dry surface. The wool knop pillow is ideal for hot sleepers who prefer a medium-firm support. The filling can be customized on both for increased and decreased support. Please contact us for more information.

The major difference between the two mattresses is comfort. The Sunshine 8 is over all firmer when compared to the Sunshine 11 – both have the same Firm base layer and top Soft comfort layer. The Sunshine 11 will naturally have more bounce and flexibility. All Queen and King adult mattresses have a left and right side, giving each sleeper total control over the feel of their side of the mattress. We have no set point for the “scent” of latex, wool, or cotton, as everyone’s sense of smell is different. Some people open their mattress and don’t notice a smell, or if there is one, it doesn’t bother them. Others are more sensitive to the smells and find it takes more time for the smell to dissipate. Most importantly, all the materials used in our products are certified by either GOLS or GOTS and have been tested for VOCs and other harmful substances. To take it a step further, the factory that manufactures our mattresses only produce organic mattress and bedding products, eliminating the risk of cross contamination or other chemical exposures. This means you can be sure that what you may be smelling is not harmful to your or your family’s health.
