Tips to Create an Organic Bedroom

A good night’s sleep is necessary to set us up for a successful and healthy life. However, it is not only the bedding pieces that portrays the dreamy overview of your bedroom. Maybe start with a small amount of decluttering. Add a few plants and some organic bedding to add an aura of comfort and peace to your sleeping space. Then, gradually work up to bigger items like rugs, sofas, organic rugs, a natural mattress. Here is an easy guide to creating your very own dreamy organic bedroom.

Mattress:

We spend one-third of our lives resting in bed, so choosing the right mattress matters a lot. Organic mattresses are made with materials such as, natural latex, organic wool and organic cotton. These materials tend to be exceptionally durable and have a longer lifespan than a conventional mattress, plus they are made without the use of adhesives, flame retardants, petrochemicals, dyes, or other materials that post a risk to your health. You want to select something that is naturally breathable and can help regulate body temperature, ensuring a healthy and comfortable night’s sleep.

Furniture:

When it comes to your bedroom furniture, ditch the big-box stores and find something made from natural materials with a natural finish. You can choose furniture made from woods like grey pine, solid birch, maple and cedar. But you'll want to make sure no toxic stains and varnishes were used during the manufacturing process. You can also go with a support Foundation which gives you the freedom to design an accent wall or get creative with art over the bed. These are also great for people who like to move their room around a lot as you are not redistricted with head and foot boards. Furniture should last you many, many years and should not have a toxic smell affect the environment which you breathe 6-8 hours daily.

Organic bedding:

When you replace your bedding essentials, it is best to opt for something that is organic. Your duvet and sheets are in direct contact with your body and need to be given special attention. Choose a duvet filled with organic wool and sheets/duvet cover that is made with a breathable organic cotton. Wool is great at keeping moisture away from the skin, while also keeping you warm when your cold and cool when your warm. It's important to choose a duvet cover that's made from 500TC or less so that you can experience the natural benefits of this miracle fiber. The bedsheets should also be breathable and soft, and not too tight fitting. You will likely want something that is easy to care for and does not change the feel of your mattress. Going with white and ivory will keep your bedroom feeling calm and airy.

Organic pillows:

Pillows are one of the most intimate items in your bedroom. You want to select pillows that are filled with natural materials such as natural latex, organic wool, kapok, buckwheat or alpaca. Organic cotton is absorbent and breathable, but not supportive for a pillow fill. You may want to choose something with an adjustable design to accommodate your specific sleeping position and your preferences. The most versatile organic pillow is the shredded latex fill. Each of the materials will perform differently, so recommended to have a conversation with the retail store before your purchase.

Live plants:

If you are a fan of foliage, consider keeping live plants in your bedroom. If your room gets a lot of sunlight and has enough space, choose a Ficus tree and a Bamboo plant. In fact, there are a few indoor plants, like snake plants and palms, that emit oxygen instead of carbon dioxide during the night. Check out this list published by NASA of plants that are natural air filters.

Apparels:

Is apparel considered part of bedroom decoration? Well, maybe not but you need to match the organic look and feel of your bedroom. Buying organic underwear, pajamas and t-shirts are the safest and healthiest choice. Sleeping without clothes is also a very popular choice, especially if you're sensitive to temperature or are a light sleeper.

Other bedroom accents:

When you are setting up your organic bedroom, you will also have to take into consideration the hazards of the paints you choose to colour your walls. Always choose non-toxic paints if you want to avoid lead and other harmful chemicals. Curtains also help complete the look of a bedroom, and in some cases are needed for blocking the light. Choosing something organic, or easy to clean is always best. And lastly, area rugs can really transform the energy in any space. You may want to avoid strong colours or hard-textures, and go with something flat, maybe made of wool or jute. There are many natural alternatives on the market now, you just need to look!

Next time you plan to refurbish your bedroom, consider using organic materials which are cultivated without the use of any harmful insecticides or pesticides. This is one of the best solutions to healthy living.
